I was told I would have a story, when I told a dear friend about our decisions to move to Alaska. She wasn't kidding! Our story really began yesterday!
We packed our U-box from U-hal on Monday. We were told that we'd be called Tuesday with details of the shipping and if there were any issues. Tuesday, we cleaned and cleaned, hoping to leave here Wednesday mid afternoon and drive as far at Santa Fe, NM.
As Wednesday progressed it became clear that getting out by mid afternoon wasn't going to happen. We had 2 cars to pack and a small U-hal trailer, that needed to go as far as Wyoming. Around Noon I had a bit of a meltdown, tears included. Sometimes a girl just has to cry out her frustrations.
I pulled myself together and we headed to lunch and to drop off the internet box that needed to be returned to the cable company. On our way back from lunch the phone rang, and the story began. It went something like this...
"Mr. Petersen, your U-box is WAY over on weight and we'll not be able to ship it." While this conversation continued I pulled into our vets office, where we needed to pick up the health certificates for the pets. Office closed for training, sorry for the inconvenience.
Back home, to rally the troops...
I found a moving company that could ship our stuff based on weight, rather than get a second or possibly even a third U-box. Got a price quote, that included deliver to our new home in Alaska (that is once we get one of those, more on that later). Now, back to U-hal to collect that damn box.
Hubby went for the box, while I made a few calls to people and chatted back and forth with the new moving company. Upon arriving at U-hal, Hubby learns that they have taken the U-box off the trailer (see pics here in this post), and they won't be able to put it back on a trailer until noon Thursday...SERIOUSLY! Okay, deep breath...
Hubby rents a 14-foot U-hal, calls me and down to U-hal I go to unpack a U-box in to a U-hal. So that we can get out stuff back home, in and ready for the movers to pick it up today. Now, in amongst all this craziness, we have packed and unpacked the small trailer we were taking to Wyoming, as you cannot unhitch it when it's full - that means we have moved a washer and dryer, as well as a small upright freezer twice in one day.
And So Our Story Begins....

Really??? Oh my word...
